Pre Budget Comments from Hotel Ista

Hospitality Industry Expectations –  

 

Mr. Jaideep Anand, GM, Ista Hyderabad says -

The budget 08 had not been very rewarding for the tourism/hospitality sector so expectations from Budget 2009 are indeed very high. Since the sector is anyways going through a bad phase with the ripple effect of global slowdown and 26/11 attacks, we are looking at receiving tax rationalization and recognition as an industry from the government which will make it easier for the sector to receive funding and thus grow at a higher rate.

 

The key remains getting the industry status for the Hospitality sector. The government should realize that the sector has been the key growth driver for the economy as it brings highest forex to the country and through its multiplier affect it supports business and infrastructure, generates employment and also boosts tourism. Though there are certain tax benefits for the hotels which are provided by various state governments at their level that too at a greater level by states like Uttaranchal, Himanchal Pradesh etc but there is no policy of tax exemption or tax holidays for the hotels from the center due to which there is no uniformity of benefits which the sector receives.

Jaideep Anand is the General Manager, Ista Hyderabad, a 5 star luxury hotel from the IHHR group. Jaideep is a Post-Graduate degree holder in Hotel Management. With more than 20 years of experience in the Hotel Industry, Jaideep has a vast ranging background.

 

Starting with The Oberoi, New Delhi – he has worked at several levels of senior management with the Oberoi Group in India and overseas. His work experience involves being Director Operations PepsiCo Restaurants Int., DGM Oberoi Hotels – New Projects, GM The Cecil and Wildflower Hall, Simla, The Park Hotel, New Delhi, Radisson Noida.

 

He has been responsible for opening and launching many of the above mentioned properties including Ista Hyderabad which is a 5 star hotel in Gachibowli, Hyderabad
