Time for Manmohan 'the economist' to act.

 

With the budget fast approaching, there is already enough speculation in the media as to what the Government would dish out this time. With the people of the country having shown tremendous faith in the Congress led UPA in the recent elections, all eyes are now on the new Finance Minister Mr.Pranab Mukherjee, as to what he has in store for the common man on the streets.

 

The whole world will be watching our budget quite eagerly since India has been one of the few economies, which has withstood the global economic meltdown, quite appreciably. Personally I feel that this is the time to act tough. Just for the sake of it, financial sops should not be thrown at the people. Regulations need to be made tougher and the economy put on the right path. The question in everyone's mind is whether it would be Manmohan 'the economist's' budget or Pranab Babu's 'populist' budget.  A combination of both would be perhaps the best way forward for the country.
