Budget wishlist- Sh K T Chacko, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade

Hi!

Greetings to you.

Please find enclosed the pre-budget quote on behalf on Sh K T Chacko, Director, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) for your reference.

Sh K T Chacko says "When global economic slow down is yet to see a reversal, our focus should be continued on boosting domestic demand and the same is expected to be factored in the forthcoming Annual Budget. Meanwhile, the business sentiments should be boosted to draw out foreign and domestic investors to the stock market and this should enable companies to address their liquidity challenges. Exporters should receive the much needed attention and Government should also decipher how to put together a hassle free regime for exempting exporters from the incidence of the remaining un-rebated indirect taxes. Beyond this, efforts are needed to make India investor and business friendly as our relative score on this account is quite low."

Please find enclosed the brief profile of Director from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade.

Mr. K.T. Chacko

Mr. K.T. Chacko holds Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Kerala and was awarded three gold medals for obtaining first rank in the State. Further, he did Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University, USA specializing in areas such as International Trade, Management in developing countries and Monetary Policy.

Mr. Chacko joined the Indian Administrative Service in July 1973 and was assigned Madhya Pradesh cadre.  He served approximately 20 years in the state of Madhya Pradesh and around 15 years in Government of India, mostly in the Department of Commerce.

His association with the Trade and Industry got renewed when he was appointed as Deputy Head (Executive Director) of India Trade Promotion Organization in 1997.  During this period, the promotional efforts of the Indian Trade and Business received his whole-hearted support and a number of new initiatives were set in motion, benefiting a large segment of the Indian Trade and Industry, particularly the micro, small and medium enterprises.

Mr. Chacko assumed the post of Director General of Foreign Trade in mid-2004 during which his responsibilities included formulation of the Trade Policy and to work as Chief Facilitator of Government in the sphere of External Trade.  His easy access and enthusiasm to listen to the problems of the Trade and Industry enabled prompt redressal of grievances.  He was able to capture the felt needs of the Trade and Industry and was able to come out with effective and prompt interventions, wherever needed.

The easy access and willingness to hear and redress the problems particularly of the small and medium enterprises endeared him to a large segment of the International Trading community of India spread all over the country.
