Dr. Mukesh Aghi, Chairman & CEO, Steria India

Dr. Mukesh Aghi, Chairman & CEO, Steria India and Member of Executive Committee, Steria Group

This budget we would expect the government to take steps that will help boost IT business and place the industry back on track.

1.       We hope that the government will bring about a drastic reduction in the excise duty to make computing accessible to every consumer of this country

2.       The IT industry would also look at clarifications on some of  the tax related issues. For example the conversion from STPI to SEZ should be simplified. Furthermore the industry could do with a further extension of the tax sops under the STPI scheme beyond 2010

3.       To promote the IT sector, investment in key areas would definitely give a boost to the Indian IT industry. Building better infrastructure, promoting IT education and investing in e-governance projects, hold the key for the IT Industry in this downturn
