BUDGET WISH LIST 2009

BUDGET WISH LIST 2009

Sir,
Autism is a life long disorder among children. There has been increasing incidence of this disorder in the recent past. As compared to other disabilities, the maintenance and care of a child who is autistic requires heavy expenditure in the form of medicines and training and care taking.

At present, this disability is being clubbed with other disabilities under 80DD. However, the present exemption of Rs. 40,000 / 50,000 is not sufficient to meet the needs of these exceptional children.

In other countries, the government takes care of such children, (while the government has created a National Trust, it is yet to yield any tangible results). As such a move is not possible in India it would be better if the exemption limit under 80DD is streched as much as possible.

Such a move will go a long way in helping parents take care of such children.

As such children have to be taken care of for a life time, a further amount may also be exempted so that, it can be invested for the future of the child for a life time. This provision may be made in the form of a fixed deposit with a nationalised bank for a particular number of years or the life time of one of the parents.

As the number of parents utilising this exemption is limited, it will not be any burden for the government.

A PARENT
HYDERABAD.
