Budget Wishlist

Dear Mr.FM,

This is difficult times for the world economy. So definitely the government needs to take care of the present scenario in its budget. However broadly my wish-list for the budget are as follows:-

1.       Investments in the basic social sectors such as Primary Education, Healthcare, Drinking water and sanitation, Power and infrastructure should be increased especially in rural sector and they should be taken as priority areas and schemes devised so that the aids reach the masses.

2.       Proper database of Below Poverty Level (BPL) people should be prepared with the Central intervention and poverty alleviation measures taken.

3.       Disinvestment of PSU's should be a priority area to bring in funds to the exchequer and to bridge the fiscal deficit that is growing over time. Its high time government moves out of these and concentrate on its core issues of governance and social sector reforms.

4.       An aggressive drive to bring the Businessmen under tax net should be made.

5.       Stringent accounting and anti-corruption laws and measures to check corruption in business should be undertaken.

6.       To bring down duties on exports.

7.       To stop subsidies on oils.

8.       To categorise the Agricultural sector and subsidies to reach farmers should be revaluated.

9.       To increase FDI limits in Insurance sector and other strategic sectors especially socio-economic sectors where there is dearth of funds.

10.   Increase funding in sports specially Football, hockey, etc with private partnership wherever required.

I think these are some of the key factors which needs special attention in this budget although there are may other areas which I am sure you will be taking care of.

Thanking you,

Yours Sincerely,

Amitava Banik
