Here is my Budget Wish List.
1. Public Transport System needs drastic improvement. It gives a sad feeling to see heavily overloaded buses particularly in the capital city of New Delhi even after 60 years of independence. Whatever the reasons or the constraints, as a country we owe to all our citizens to have a safe & pleasant bus ride from their residences to their work places & back. Increasing number of buses, widening the roads, disciplining the bus drivers & conductors, as also the passengers & pedestrians themselves, removing hawkers from the roadsides, removing all the encroachments from shopkeepers & others & planning & providing necessary funds for all these related activities must be part of the serious budgeting exercise.
2. Sanitation is another issue which is so very important. While approving unauthorized residential colonies may be politically & socially expedient, it is of paramount importance to provide necessary sanitation to all our inhabitants. If we are serious about the Inclusive Growth concept, we need to give sanitation due priority for hygiene & quality living. Not only will the individual habitants get the required sanitation benefits, but the entire neighbourhood would also get cleaned up in the process. It is a serious problem & due budgetary support is needed for the purpose.
There are more issues on my wish list, but for the time being I am restricting myself with these two wishes only.
