BUDJET WISHLIST 2009

Sir,

To protect social justice, governments at central and state levels
have been implementing various social welfare measures. The quality of
education, boarding and lodging facilities, management, cleanliness,
recreative facilities, toilet facilities, and the attitude of staff at
social welfare department's schools and colleges, etc are in very bad
shape.

For instance, due to swallowing of the meagre funds allocated for food
at these hostels, the economically and socially backward children are
turning under nourished and mal nourished leading to several health
hazards. Further, the medical facilities too are of sub standard.
Similarly, the quality of teachers posted in such schools is of
inferior leading to very low knowledge levels of children studying in
social welfare department's educational institutions.

On the other hand, the country's poor cannot afford costly education
at private schools and colleges.

Due to the above mentioned problems, the gap between convent educated
urban, well off children and the children of weaker sections on many
fronts such as knowledge levels, health, etc has been widening.

If the governments (central and state) are serious in transforming
Indian society in to an egalitarian society, something concrete has to
be done in this aspect.
