Mr. Indresh Batra, MD, Jindal SAW Ltd. & Chairman, Jindal ITF Ltd.

~ Budget 2009 Wishlist ~

"This Union Budget, the government should make gas pipeline infrastructure in the country a top priority and also set up a nodal agency like the National Highway Authority of India for speedier implementation and funding. Besides this, we also propose setting up of an independent regulator for Hydrocarbon markets.

We also recommend that JNNURM should be strengthened for implementing water, sewage and other urban infrastructure projects. There is also a need to put a cess to fund social sector infrastructure projects.

Further the government should look at coastal and inland water shipping as a program of national importance and use it as a Marquee national infrastructure project which has tremendous potential for generating employment and reducing the cost of transportation, thus, making other sectors more competitive.

Lastly, the government should roll out and implement a full GST and also eliminate FBT."
