Name: Mr. Atul Marwaha

Designation: Director-International Business

Expectations from the budget:

“For the last few years the STPI scheme is being extended only for one year and it becomes very difficult for small and growing companies like us to decide and register under the scheme and take any benefits. Also the process initiates only around June-July and by the time the registration etc is done, there is hardly any time left to avail benefits. We expect the scheme to be extended for at-least 3 years so that companies who haven’t been registered earlier can have sufficient time to get the registration done and avail benefits to offset the costs involved. Other request we will want to make is that the government should clarify and simplify the implied taxes on software maintenance and AMC’s. Currently there is a big confusion, if the software maintenance attracts sales or service tax and during audit we get harassed by sales and services tax department, who expect double taxation to be charged, which no This should be simplified and clearly defined. The third expectation is that counter veiling duty on imported software should be removed. Since service providers like us need to import lot of expensive software for development, and none of the service we do attract excise duty, we are unable claim any refund/credit for the same as it can only be claimed by excise paying companies. It is an unnecessary burden that makes us uncompetitive”
