"As a citizen of India, everyone would like to have a happy living with things around functioning well and better looking than before. Though with the advent of new technologies in place,
quite a few products around find their place under that. However, when we see the reading material within most of the families specially the educational books, it gives an impression
that we in India do not have good Binding facilities with printing presses. And it is true to greater extent, as invariably pages out of books start coming out or the cover parting away altogether specially when the books are printed and bound in India. With the prohibitive cost of imported equipment added with custom duty, it goes beyond
the affordibility of a medium size printer. It is also learnt that Governments of Malaysia, China and other asian countries acknlodging this fact, have zero duty system for Binding equipments coming from Europe/US. This is definitely helping to increase the standard of printed product which is as important as having good quality roads to commute. Education in any country always remains a lifeline to be on a path of pogress.
The expenditure on R&D in print has always been on top priority in US whereas in India we still need to make a beginning. As such on my wish list will be the Government to abolish or minmise the custom duty as in the case of high speed newspaper printing presses for few years so as to have excellent quality of bound books for our student community", says S K Khurana who is the editor of New Delhi based bimonthly journal on printing technology - Print & Publishing.
