Actis Biologics Pvt Ltd: A high end biotechnology company in the country; it is the only company in the country and among few in the world, doing active research (through Gene Therapy Program) to develop biotech drugs for breast cancer. The Malaysian Government with its appetite for new scientific developments has provided a collaborative venture for the company to build up a biotech park called Biocity in Melaka, Malaysia.

BUDGET EXPECTAIONS OF MR. P.N. VENUGOPALAN, PRESIDENT OF ACTIS BIOLOGICS PVT. LTD

 

To encourage intellectual property in the country for biotech industries, government should initiate the following:

Totally remove duties on research equipments used for biotech research.

 government should also remove personal income-tax burdens of research workers and associates, to help reduce wages / salary expenses of research based companies - particulary those which are not revenue generating.   Specific incentives should be given to biotech research companies which are exclusively supported by the investors and institutions - including government.

This proposal, if ever implemented, will increase biotech patent assets of the country.
