Sir, Convert Telegraph service into fax service.

Not many are aware that to many places, except major towns, telegrams are sent by post for want of staff and offices. Telegrams are now used only by a few who send Greetings telegrams, which is considered still respectable, and by lawyers for purposes of record. It has outrun its utility. On May 16th, when the whole Nation was keenly watching election results, when there was no Parliament and hence Minister, BSNL which runs the telegraph service now increased the minimum charges for telegram from Rs.4 to Rs.24 on the sly !.Even the few users will turn away.

These telegraph offices may be merged with post offices and post offices could run the fax service as there is at least one post office in every pin code area. A page of fax handwritten or typed by sender could be transmitted for Rs. 5 a page and door-delivered at the other end ... People could write in Tamil in one page of A4 size. Post office will still be used for carrying originals, voluminous documents and for private communications since fax service will not be confidential.
The benefit of the technology should be passed on to the consumers.
Hope the Finance Minister would consider this.
Yours truly,
