Budget Wishlist of Mr. Sridhar Reddy, CMD, CtrlS Datacenters

Greetings,

Please find enclosed Budget Expectations of Mr. Sridhar Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director, CtrlS Datacenters.  I am also attaching his brief profile and picture.

1.      Given the current recessionary global scenario, government should come out with special measures for the IT sector. Firstly, the Government is a huge consumer and should accelerate the budgeted spend on various activities like SWAN, Data Centres, National Mission on Education through ICT and Mission Mode e-Governance Projects. More importantly, Government should take steps to bring in certainty in the near-term. Banks, Manufacturers, Exporters and IT/ITES companies are postponing their expenditure due to the prevailing uncertainty, the expectation that Govt. would come with further stimulus packages etc. If firms don't spend, we will see further deceleration and that affects the IT industry as well.

2.      Extension of the STPI scheme by another large block of 10 or 5 years.

3.      Rationalisation of customs duty on imported equipments. Since it has been proven that IT actually enhances productivity, I would suggest that the Govt. should cut import duties to zero on IT equipment. The loss of revenue would be more than compensated by the increase in taxes like VAT.
